  1. I really like the idea of creating a story character's facebook. That sounds like alot of fun for both the student and the teacher!

  2. Gardener's Theory of Multiple Intelligences is really interesting! I remember Dr. Neubert briefly mentioning them at one point, but I did not know what they were. While I agree with the weakness portion that you mention (about the difficulty of individualizing instruction for so many students) I like the idea of trying to work the 7 different intelligences into lesson planning. Obviously, it would be impossible to do all 7 in every lesson, but mixing it up every once in a while seems like it couldn't hurt.

BTW: I LOVE the video... I <3 Leonard Nimoy

  3. I think that the idea of creating a Facebook page foor a chrarcter was a stroke of genius. It's an unusual and intriguing way to get your students to really think about the characters they're reading. I also feel that the multiple intelligences theory is interesting. I once took one of those tests and scorced highest in math and music much to my sister's dismay. She vehemently refuses to admit to any connection between math and music.

  4. I have never felt completely comfortable with the idea of multiple intelligences. I find it difficult to believe that "intelligence" or being "smart" can be defined in so many ways. The theory essentialy says that even those professional athletes like NFL or NBA players who barely graduated high school or were passed along in college just so they could play sports are "intelligent" kinesthetically. Even though we often categorize them as dumb jocks. Anyway, your ideas for incorporating technology were great I think the entire class loved your ideas!

  5. I know that everyone has said it before, but I LOVE the idea of creating a facebook page for a character, or a historical person! It is fun, it's using a system that students know and probably use HOURS every day, and it allows them to be creative while still using so much important information. Coming up with clever statuses that are accurate is DIFFICULT but can really show who understands and who doesn't!

And to comment on Lisa's reply, music and math are SO closely related! (I have a bachelors degree in music ;) ) Just because you might not LIKE math, doesn't change the fact that rhythm and counting and time signatures and practically EVERYTHING has some correlation to math! In my 20th century theory class we had to fill out a matrix in order to figure out a specific kind of music theory. You could figure it out simply "counting" but it became so much easier once you figured out the mathematical equation it took to fill out each row in the matrix! I might not LOVE math, but I will be the first to admit that music and math are very closely related!
